Dear Students and Parents,
Students are expected to visit Study Island on a weekly basis for at least one hour in school and about one to two hours outside of school. When a student logs in, s/he will see the home page with different reading and math topics listed. When a student passes the topic, it will say 'complete'. However, many students will not pass the first time through. This is to be expected. It will take a combination of online Study Island games practice, in-class instruction, and studying time done online through Study Island. With time and practice, each student should be able to pass a topic. You may see something underneath a topic that says 'Building Block'. This means the student is currently receiving extra practice and instruction to help them evertually pass the topic. If a student passes a Building Block quiz, this does not necessarily mean s/he has passed the topic. It will take time.

I will log on weekly to check students' progress and give them participation points for using Study Island. I am able to see what games were played, the scores, what quizzes were passed, and if, indeed, a student was able to master a topic. Please do not feel overwhelmed by the amount of quizzes (topics) listed to complete on the home page. Students are expected to work at their own pace. There is no hurry or need to pass all of them at once.

Please let me know if you have any additional questions/ concerns via email or the wiki discussion page. Thanks for your support and patience with these new online programs. We are slowly but surely transitioning into the Digital Age, and these programs will aid in your child's success. We are making great progress this year, and your child's hard work shows on a daily basis.
